It was an original long barrel full choke gun that was already cut down to a riot gun length. The main part I was missing was / is the bayonet mount heat shield that clamps to the barrel. I remember reading that they sent an well known 1897 expert to the the Norinco factory in China. If you have the riot version it should be easy to convert it to a trench.
