As it is my wife's vehicle, she was describing it as a transmission shudder, when in reality it is the engine cutting out intermittently.from what I recall, it's front-wheel-drive based, so when 4wd is off and there's nothing to slip on, it's 100% FWD. Then when the Patriot detects some slipping, it automatically sends up to 20-30% of power to the rear wheels, as needed. Or, you can flip the T-handle next to the handbrake and lock it in 50-50.But oil pressure sending units can do "weird" things when they fail. So far I've had 3 fail (all on Chrysler products 1 on my old 2002 Intrepid and 2 on my 1995 Cherokee XJ). This should be normal as traction was lost on the right side. No problem. Later the ECS light came on and stayed. I cycled the ignition switch as called for in the OM. The light stayed off. . If you get the engine running again, do the same. It should be around 14 volts DC for correct charging voltage. Now the red flashing light above the temp gauge is on the entire time I drive and has been on since I bought it a week ago! The dealer said it is nothing, a "security light". But the jeep has nothing "security" wise on it! no power anything so certainly no alarm..
